The FrogJump Top 20 is our Power Ranking of the DIII Men’s Volleyball Landscape. Our algorithm uses a host of different variables, including the cumulative statistics of D3VB men’s programs throughout the season. This allows us to reflect the ever changing dynamics within the landscape as teams compete to be the best in the nation.
The better a team performs, the higher they’ll climb in our model. As it stands, only match data up to 2/14/22 was taken into account (sorry MIT, the Wentworth win will be reflected next week).
- Springfield: The Pride sit at 10-0 after sweeping Nichols, #3 Stevens, and Rivier. Their match versus New Paltz tonight was postponed yesterday, so they’ll travel to Rivier next Tuesday for a rematch with the Raiders.
- Vassar: The Brewers are fresh off two sweeps of UVC opponents, MIT and Bard. They’ll continue conference play on the road this week when they travel to Elmira, before hosting Stevens and Ramapo for a tri-match in Poughkeepsie.
- Dominican: The Stars have had ten days of rest since their last match versus Wabash, but will kick off conference play this week. They’ll host a solid CUW squad on Friday followed by Lakeland on Saturday.
- Rutgers-Newark: What a week for the Scarlet Raiders. Derek Au has this team firing on all cylinders, as Rutgers sits at 8-1 on the season following two victories over nationally ranked St. John Fisher and Nazareth. They’ll look to keep this run going as they battle for New Jersey supremacy tonight against Stevens.
- Wentworth: The Leopards finally tasted defeat in a 5-set loss to MIT. They don’t have much time to recover, as they’ll hit the road to play Nichols Thursday followed by a conference tri-match against Elms and Lasell on Saturday.
- North Central College: The Cardinals remain undefeated following a 3-1 conference win over North Park. They’ll look to keep the ball rolling against Illinois Wesleyan this Saturday.
- Southern Virginia: The Knights went undefeated last week, beating nationally ranked Marymount, Immaculata, and Mt. Saint Joseph. They’ll face off against Randolph-Macon in a battle of Virginia powers, a match I have circled on my calendar.
- Carthage College: The Firebirds are rising from the ashes as they come off a string of insane offensive performances. They’ll put their 5 match win strak on the line this Saturday when they travel to Augustana for a conference match.
- Stevens Institute of Technology: The Ducks finally tasted defeat at the hands of Springfield. They were able to rebound with a win over Rivier and currently sit at 10-1. The Ducks have a tough week of matches, as they’re traveling to Newark, NJ to take on the red hot Scarlet Raiders tonight; followed by a tri-match with Vassar and Ramapo this weekend.
- Juniata College: The Eagles are currently on a four match win streak following their 5-set loss to Rutgers-Newark. They’ll put it on the line this weekend as they battle against Randolph-Macon and Misericordia.
- Marymount: The Saints picked up their winning ways following their 3-1 loss to Southern Virginia last week; having beaten Cal Lutheran, Purchase, and Ramapo since. They’ll face off against the Stevenson Mustangs tonight in a highly anticipated rematch, before traveling to Eastern Mennonite for a conference match on Friday.
- Loras: The Duhawks were riding high following a second win over Fontbonne, before having the wind taken out of their sails by Trine in a tightly contested 5-set loss. The Duhawks rebounded with a win over IWU yesterday, and will travel to a much improved North Park on Saturday in a match I intend to keep an eye on.
- St. John Fisher: The Cardinals are coming off a tight 3-1 loss to Rutgers-Newark. They don’t have much time to rest, as they take on crosstown rival Nazareth tonight for Rochester bragging rights. They’ll end their week with a conference match against Bard on Friday in Anandale, NY.
- Nazareth: The Golden Flyers went 1-1 this past weekend; losing to Rutgers-Newark before sweeping Baldwin Wallace. They have a highly anticipated match, the “Battle of the Beaks” against St. John Fisher tonight, before heading downstate to kick off conference play against NYU (Friday) and Bard (Saturday).
- Messiah: The Falcons are slowly climbing up the ranks as they sit on a 5 match win streak. They have two conference matches this week, taking on Eastern University tonight and Alvernia this weekend.
- New York University: The Violets will look to build momentum as they travel to Pennsylvania to take on Arcadia tonight. They don’t have much time to rest, as they have tough UVC matches against Nazareth (Friday) and Elmira (Saturday) shortly after.
- Randolph-Macon: The breakout program who should be on everyone’s radar now. The Yellow Jackets are 8-0 following their sweep of Stevenson, the win propelling them to their first ever ranking in both the AVCA coaches poll and our own model. They play Southern Virginia tomorrow night, a match I’ll definitely be watching.
- Fontbonne University: The Griffins fell short in their rematch with Loras at their own invitational, but currently sit at 8-2 on the year. They begin conference play tonight, hosting Wittenberg before traveling to Mt. St. Joseph on Saturday.
- Stevenson University: A recurring theme of the season remains, the Mustangs have and will play everyone and anyone. They don’t have much time to rest following their loss to Randolph-Macon, as they take on Marymount in a rematch tonight.
- Endicott: The Gulls went 1-1 last week, losing to Lasell (3-1) while sweeping Regis. They’ll look to build some momentum this week, as they’ll host Rivier in what will assuredly be a closely contested match.
