Inaugural Match: Carthage vs Juniata
The opening match of the FrogJump Invitational sets the stage for an epic showdown between two volleyball juggernauts: Carthage College and Juniata. Carthage, the former NCAA champion in both 2021 and 2022, enters the competition with a formidable reputation and a hunger to reclaim dominance within the landscape. Gene McNulty leads a new core of Firebirds, as the program has gone young with the inclusion of Outside Hitter Owen Otto, Opposite Ben Heise, and Middle Blocker Ethan Sprague in their starting line up.
On the other side of the net, Juniata brings to the court a storied history of greatness, boasting an impressive 11 national championships. The Exeter High School trio of Hoffman, Ganter, and Goldsborough form the core of Juniata’s team, with new inclusions Tyler Philips and Chris Melor breaking into the starting rotations this year.
The anticipation is palpable as these two powerhouse teams, both having made it to the elite 8 last year, collide. The Juniata gym has proven to be one of the most hostile courts to play in throughout D3VB’s history, and an opponent like Carthage will definitely bring out the Juniata faithful. Thursday promises to be a thrilling and closely contested match, setting the tone for the Friday and Saturday games. Write ups on the remaining matches will drop throughout the week.
See you in Huntingdon.
