Impact Recruits Part V – 2023

It was a busy July here at the pond. Following our slunks project, volleyball camps, and work vacations we needed to take an operational pause to catch our breath. With July in the rear view and August just beginning, we’ll be resuming our coverage of D3 happenings as the 2023 season gets ever closer. Dive in to Part V of our Impact recruit series, where Harvey and I highlight players across the country we think have the potential to make some noise their freshmen year.

As always, the players featured aren’t ranked in any meaningful order, as we at FrogJump do not rank incoming recruits. Parents, do not email me asking “why was my athlete not listed”… you will not like my response. (Please notice how I have underlined the last sentence, as many of you continue to email me -___-).

Josh Blomberg– Middle Blocker – Fontbonne

Blomberg will be a huge addition for the Griffins in 2023. A product of Marist High School (Illinois) and Ultimate Volleyball Club, Blomberg is a physical middle who should have an immediate impact for the Griffins as they seek to reclaim the MCVL title this year.

Ben Kayser – Outside Hitter – CUW

Coach Madson brings in another quality outside to shore up CUW’s pin depth following James Althoff’s departure. A product of Marquette University High School, the high flying Kayser has the legs to jump with the best blocks the NACC has to offer.

Ryder Hill-Zastrow – Opposite – Edgewood

Coach Thomas has a few ballers coming in for Edgewood’s second season, and Hill-Zastrow is one who caught my eye immediately. A 6’6 Opposite out of Wauwatosa East High School (WI), Hill-Zastrow is the big physical pin programs are built around. Long and athletic with a heavy swing, Hill-Zastrow has the potential to be Edgewood’s version of Spencer Herman (OPP from CUW).

Joshua Steinitz – Middle Blocker / Outside Hitter – Baldwin Wallace

Following a season where Baldwin Wallace played 9 of their 26 matches against nationally ranked opponents, the Yellow Jackets have come of age. Coach Mars will complement his upper classmen corps with Joshua Steinitz, a versatile hitter out of the middle or the left. If the Annapolis Volleyball Club prospect can adjust to the speed of the collegiate game, he’ll be a force in the MCVL for years to come.

Ben Volokh – Opposite Hitter – MIT

Fresh off finishing 13th at AAU Nationals with Team Rockstar, Ben Volokh will be a hitter to keep an eye on this year at MIT. Whether he’s on the left or right pin, Volokh has the size and physicality to terminate in the ever-competitive UVC. He’ll complement the young corps MIT brought in last year as they seek to return to the UVC Tournament.
