The FrogJump Team of the Week is our weekly honor roll, recognizing some of the top performances at each of the seven positions from the last week of matches. Honorees are nominated by their SID/Coaches and selected by a committee of FrogJump staff.
Carter Schmidt – Carthage – Outside Hitter

Carter Schmidt has been on Pepperjacks breakout list since the summer and we can definitely see why. The OH2 was instrumental in the Firebirds week, helping Carthage go 2-0 with victories over Midwest standouts Fontbonne and Loras. Schmidt finished the week with 29 kills, averaging 4.14 kills/set while hitting .568%. His performance against Fontbonne was his best to date, as he finished the match with a 12 kills on 13 attempts to hit .923! Woof.
Jacob LaBouliere – Wentworth – Outside Hitter

Laboo once again earns Team of the Week honors as he continues his torrid pace of play. The 6’7 Outside Hitter was unstoppable in California for the Leopards, finishing the west coast trip with 63 kills, averaging 5.73 kills/set while hitting .495. To date, Laboo is 4th in the nation in kills per set (4.29 kills/set) and sixth in the nation in hitting percentage (.452 %). We haven’t seen an Outside put up these numbers for a season in a LONG time.
Mat Molloy – Dominican – Middle Blocker

The best hair in D3VB earns his first FrogJump honor after a stellar slate of performances last week. The Mullet flexed on Midwest powers Benedictine and Fontbonne to help the Stars go 2-0 in matches. Molloy was a force at the net on offense and defense, with 21 kills (.678%) and 12 total blocks (1.5 blocks/set). This was highlighted by his match against Fontbonne, where the senior Middle went 9-0-11 with 8 total blocks in the 3-1 victory.
Zach Bulthuis – Carthage – Middle Blocker

Zach Bulthuis continues to assert dominance for the Firebirds as he makes his claim to be the best middle in D3VB. He finished the week with 21 kills (3 kills/set), a .643 hitting %, and 7 total blocks (1 block/set).
Alejandro Garcia Fernandez – Eastern Nazarene – Opposite

Alejandro Garcia Fernandez is having his own breakout campaign at Eastern Nazarene this year. The sophomore Opposite ended last week with 67 kills, averaging 6.7 kills/set while hitting .338%. He made history this past week, breaking the NCAA record for kills in a 5-set match against SUNY Potsdam. Fernandez finished the match with 43 kills, averaging 8.6 kills/set while hitting an astounding .464%. Quite possibly the best individual performance we’ve seen this year.
Gene McNulty – Setter – Carthage

The Firebirds performances don’t occur without the steady play of Gene McNulty. Gene orchestrated an offense which hit .454 last week, highlighted by their match versus Fontbonne where Carthage hit .613 through 3 sets. Gene ended the week with 80 total assists, averaging 11.43 assists/set.
Kyle Cohan – Carthage – Libero

Cohan continues his stellar play and earns his second team of the week nomination. In matches versus Loras and Fontbonne, the senior Libero finished with 24 digs, averaging 3.42 digs/set with a combined passer rating of 2.5 against Loras and Fontbonne.
