
It is a privilege to introduce our newest contributor, Dr. Mark Carbonara. An alumnus of Dominican University (IL), Dr. Carbonara currently serves as Director of Academic Advising & First-Year Experience for his alma mater. Mark is a seasoned professional with a demonstrated history of working within the field of higher education, focusing on leadership education, academic advising, orientation and transition programming, mentoring, life coaching, communication, and conflict resolution.
Dr. Mark is one of the foremost emerging researchers in college student development; with a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Natural Science – Environmental Studies from Dominican University, a Master of Science (MS) in College Student Personnel from Western Illinois University, and a Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) in Higher Education from Northern Illinois University. His dissertation was a critical narrative inquiry study entitled: “‘Sup, Bro?’: Constructions and Perceptions of Masculinities and Gender Identity Among Division III Student-Athlete Men”.
We love talking about the “mental” side of things here at the Pond, and nobody in the field is better at doing it than Mark. Welcome him to the team and be on the lookout for some of his pieces throughout the year.
