Team of the Week (1/13 – 1/22)

Aurora Men’s Volleyball vs. Trine

The FrogJump Team of the Week is our weekly honor roll, recognizing some of the top performances at each of the seven positions from the last week. Honorees are nominated by SID/Coaches across the country and selected by a committee of FrogJump staff.

Owen Wickens – Outside Hitter – Nazareth

The Jack Knife could do no wrong to start the year, as Wickens powered Nazareth to a 4-0 record at the SUNY Poly Invitational. Through the first week of competition, Owen totaled 86 kills (4.1 kills/set, .378%), 23 aces (1.05 aces/set) and 43 digs (2.05 digs/set).

Percy Bickford – Outside Hitter – Stevens Institute of Technology

Bickford has been lights out for the Ducks through the first week of matches, helping them fly high against Vassar, St. John Fisher, St. Josephs (LI), and Elms. Bickford totaled 38 kills (3.17 kills/set) while hitting .462, alongside 21 digs (1.75 digs/set).

John McCormack – Middle Blocker – Aurora

Aurora Men’s Volleyball vs. Trine

McCormack went out on his shield like a true Spartan during Aurora’s 5-set battle with NYU. McCormack finished the match with 14 kills (2.8 kills/set, .423%) and 7 total blocks (1.4 blocks/set).

Tanner Soracco – Middle Blocker – Nichols

Tanner Soracco impressed many at the SUNY Poly Invitational this past weekend, and it’s easy to see why. The big bison finished the week with 37 kills (2.5 kills/set, .333%) 10 blocks, and 4 aces.

Hunter Oshman – Opposite – Wentworth Institute of Technology

Expect a lot more volume from Hunter Oshman this year, and the numbers to go along with it. Oshman ended the week with 54 kills (2.45 kills/set, .304%) 10 blocks (.45 blocks/set) and 36 digs (1.64 digs/set).

Kyle Shaffer – Setter – New Paltz

Shaffer was a key cog during the Hawks Midwest trip, guiding New Paltz to a 5-1 record with notable wins over #6 North Central and #12 Dominican. Shaffer compiled 202 assists (9.18 assists/set), 17 kills, 11 blocks, and 8 aces.

Kyle Vasquez – Libero – Benedictine

The senior Libero proved his worth as a preseason All-American last week, helping the Eagles go 1-1 to start the year with an upset of #7 New Paltz in their home opener. For the week, Vasquez averaged a 2.3 passer rating while compiling 24 digs (3 digs/set).
